  • Construction of Road I/57 Krnov – North-East bypass has been launched.

    6. 3. 2017

PURPOSE OF THE CONSTRUCTION

The expected traffic and economic benefits seen in the construction of a road bypassing the town are mainly the smoother and safer flow of traffic, sufficient capacity reserve for the increase in the intensity of traffic outside the plan period and lower fuel consumption and emissions into the air as a result.

Road I/57 is a part of an important international route Ostrava-Opava-Krnov-Bartultovice, running on roads I/11 and I/57 to the international border crossing in Bartultovice which has no tonnage limitation and is linked on to the Polish territory with road 413 leading to Prudnik. Utilization of the road has a negative impact on Krnov where the current daily passage rate reaches 12,500 vehicles per 24 hours.

The project starts in the local quarter of Chomýž before the crossroads with Okružní street. The route copies the existing road I/57 up to the curve where it leaves the route and continues to the future transverse intersection with the South-Western ring road of road I/45, then the route runs over the existing road I/57 and railway line on an elevated road.

There will be a transverse intersection constructed with Chomýžská street. The route diverts out of the town centre towards the border with Poland, crosses the Opavice River and goes through the protection zone of water-source of grade II to the transverse intersection with road I/45 to the border crossing.

It returns to the current road I/57 through the floodplain of the Opavice and Opava Rivers after the flyover above the railway track to a roundabout in the local part of Krnov called Petrův Důl. Road I/57 is in the flood risk area section - intersection I/45 designed in category S 9.5/80 and in the remaining part then in category S 11.5/80 in accordance with the suggested motorway and road network categorization. The total length of the route is 7,742 metres.

The route of the ring road crosses a relocation of road I/45 at km 4.220 (km 2.089 of road I/45). The ground plan decision for the construction of road I/45 Krnov – border crossing" was issued in 2002. The construction of the North-East bypass of Krnov, however, gained a priority, and will be constructed prior to the relocation of road I/45.

For this reason, it was necessary to include a part of the construction of road I/45, adjacent to the intersection with the North-East ring road in the bypass construction. The construction will include relocation of road I/45 in an indispensable extent at km 1.85-2.26

The construction also includes a level connection of the existing road I/57 (Albrechtická Street at the initial stage and Opavská Street at the final stage of the construction), which will be transferred to the network of roads of class III and local roads.
The expected traffic and economic benefits seen in the construction of a road bypassing the town are mainly the smoother and safer flow of traffic, sufficient capacity reserve for the increase in the intensity of traffic outside the plan period and lower fuel consumption and emissions into the air as a result.
The Krnov bypass road will also significantly reduce driving time. At the same time the road safety will increase, which will lead to a lower number of road accidents. Another significant benefit is the new conditions for further development of the region.
